Throughout my scientific career, I have been involved in public engagement activities through the divulgation of computational biology promoting training, symposiums, and conferences worldwide. These activities have brought me great experiences and opportunities to consolidate a network of young researchers in bioinformatics supported by ISCB Student Council. Therefore, I must thank this organization for contributing to the development of my career and to developing my leadership skills, and from my current role as an executive team member and treasurer, I will continue contributing to strengthening this impressive and unique community of young scientists across the globe.

His research has been focused on the study of different etiological agents (viruses, bacteria, and parasites) of many human infectious diseases, incorporating bioinformatics, molecular evolution, and “omics” approaches. Currently, his research interest is focused on pathogens genomics and the prediction of host-pathogen interactions from the study of protein diversity to systems biology implementing biological networks, and integrating data from different omics technologies. Yesid is a biologist from Universidad del Valle in Cali, Colombia and has a master 's degree in biology from Universidad de Antioquia in Medellín, Colombia. He obtained his PhD in bioinformatics at the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, Brazil and developed his thesis at FIOCRUZ – Minas. Yesid became involved with ISCB-SC in 2014 as part of the organizing committee of the first Latin America Student Council symposium in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. Furthermore, he has been part of the organizing committee during these years: LA-SCS 2018, LA-SCS 2020 and he has been co-author of 2 papers of the ISCB-Student Council (PMID: 31508204 ; PMID: 33363714). In 2016, he founded the Regional Student Group in Colombia, in 2019 he joined the Student Council Webinars Team and in 2020 he became co-chair of the webinar series, during the same year he was elected Vice-Chair of the Latin America region.
